Ingredients for Easy Tomato & Basil Pasta
400g pasta (spaghetti, penne, or spirals)
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
400g tin crushed tomatoes
Salt and pepper, to taste
Fresh basil leaves
Optional:
A pinch of sugar (to balance acidity)
Grated parmesan, to serve
Chilli flakes
Step-by-Step Instructions
Cook the pasta – Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil and cook pasta according to packet instructions. Drain and reserve a little pasta water.
Make the sauce – Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
Simmer – Add crushed tomatoes, season with salt and pepper, and simmer for 10–15 minutes. Add a pinch of sugar if needed.
Combine – Toss cooked pasta through the sauce, adding a splash of pasta water if needed.
Finish – Stir through fresh basil just before serving.
