Meet the Heart Behind Alofa Tunoa

Alofa Tunoa was created by an Australian-Samoan Christian as a space for faith in Jesus, Pacific food, culture, Gagana Samoa and everyday stories.

Growing up in an EFKS family, faith and fa'aSāmoa have always been intertwined — church, family, food, language and community. But I also know what it is like to sit in church and not always understand every word being spoken.

Alofa Tunoa is my small way of sharing what I know, learning what I don't, and hopefully making the journey a little easier for someone else.

For the one person who needs it — I hope this helps.

What “Alofa Tunoa” Means

Alofa means love.

Tunoa describes something freely given — love without resistance or condition.
It also refers to the kitchen, the heart of the home in Samoan culture.

Together, Alofa Tunoa means divine love expressed freely —
the same kind of love we share when we gather, cook, and serve one another.

A Little About the Writer

Raised by Samoan parents, my life has always been grounded in fa’asamoa and faith.
I grew up with nightly lotu, weekends in church, and food at the centre of every gathering.

I write as Alofa Tunoa, a name that reflects God’s grace and the warmth of our culture.
My hope is that this space brings joy, comfort, and encouragement to your home and your walk with Christ.
