An Easy Way to Cook Juicy Steak
Cooking steak in the air fryer is surprisingly simple. You can get a beautifully browned outside and juicy centre without firing up the barbecue or standing over a hot frying pan, making it perfect for an easy dinner at home.
Steak can sometimes feel like one of those meals you need to get exactly right, but it doesn't have to be complicated. A little seasoning, a hot air fryer and a few minutes of resting are all you need for a satisfying meal to share around the table.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Steak
2 steaks, about 2–3 cm thick
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Optional:
½ teaspoon onion powder
1 tablespoon butter, for serving
Fresh rosemary or thyme
Step-by-Step Instructions
Bring the steaks out of the fridge. Let them sit at room temperature for around 15–20 minutes, then pat dry with paper towel.
Season the steaks. Rub both sides lightly with olive oil, then season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Preheat the air fryer. Preheat to 200°C for 3–5 minutes if your air fryer requires preheating.
Air fry the steaks. Place the steaks in the basket with space between them. Cook at 200°C for approximately 10–14 minutes, flipping halfway through.
Check the temperature. Use a meat thermometer to check the centre and continue cooking if needed until your preferred doneness is reached.
Rest before serving. Transfer the steaks to a plate and rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing. Add butter or fresh herbs if desired.
Helpful Tips
Choose steaks of a similar thickness so they finish cooking at roughly the same time.
Pat the meat dry before seasoning to help the outside brown.
Use a meat thermometer rather than relying only on cooking time.
Let the steak rest before slicing so the juices can settle back through the meat.

Air frying makes steak simple and mostly hands-off.
