The Easiest Air Fryer Baked Potato
A good air fryer baked potato should have crispy, seasoned skin on the outside and a hot, soft and fluffy centre. The air fryer makes that surprisingly easy without needing to heat the whole oven, and most of the cooking time is completely hands-off.
Keep them simple with butter and cheese, serve them alongside dinner, or put out a few toppings and turn baked potatoes into the meal itself. They're affordable, filling and easy to adapt to whatever your family already has in the fridge.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
4 medium baking potatoes
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon salt
Optional:
Butter
Grated cheese
Sour cream
Spring onions
Baked beans
Tuna
Leftover cooked chicken
Black pepper
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the potatoes. Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly, then dry them completely with paper towel or a clean kitchen towel.
Pierce the potatoes. Prick each potato several times with a fork.
Season the skins. Rub the potatoes lightly with olive oil, then sprinkle the salt evenly over the skins.
Place in the air fryer. Arrange the potatoes in the basket with enough room around them for the hot air to circulate.
Air fry until tender. Cook at 200°C for 40–50 minutes, turning halfway through. Larger potatoes may need additional time.
Check the centre. Insert a small knife or skewer into the thickest part. It should slide through easily when the potato is cooked.
Open and fluff. Carefully slice each potato down the centre and gently squeeze the sides to open it. Fluff the inside with a fork.
Add your toppings. Finish with butter, cheese or your favourite baked potato toppings and serve while hot.
Helpful Tips
Choose potatoes of a similar size so they cook at roughly the same speed.
Dry the potatoes thoroughly before adding oil for crispier skin.
Don't wrap the potatoes in foil — this traps steam and prevents the skins from becoming crisp.
Very large potatoes may need an extra 5–10 minutes of cooking.
