A Simple Samoan-Style Bake Made for Sharing
This pisupo and potato bake is the kind of meal many families recognise—simple ingredients, baked together until soft, creamy, and deeply satisfying. It’s affordable, filling, and perfect for feeding a household without fuss.
This dish reflects the way many Samoan families cook: stretching pantry staples, cooking with care, and making meals that are meant to be shared around the table. No trends, no shortcuts—just honest, comforting food.
Ingredients for Pisupo & Potato Bake
1 can pisupo (corned beef), sliced or roughly broken up
5–6 potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 small onion, thinly sliced
1 cup cream or evaporated milk
½ cup milk
1 cup grated cheese
Black pepper, to taste
Optional:
Extra cheese for topping
Butter for greasing the dish
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°C and lightly grease a baking dish.
Layer the potatoes evenly across the base of the dish.
Add the pisupo and onion by scattering them over the potatoes.
Pour over the cream and milk, ensuring most of the potatoes are covered.
Season lightly with black pepper (pisupo is already salty).
Top with cheese evenly across the surface.
Cover and bake with foil for 35–40 minutes, until potatoes are tender.
Uncover and finish baking for a further 10–15 minutes until golden on top.
Rest briefly before serving so the bake sets.
Helpful Tips
Slice potatoes thinly so they cook evenly.
Cover tightly during the first bake to soften the potatoes properly.
Let the bake rest before serving for cleaner slices.
This dish reheats well the next day.
