A Simple Everyday Meal Using What’s in the Cupboard

Falai Pisupo & Noodles is another quick fix many Samoan families rely on. It’s made the same way as falai pisupo, but with noodles added to stretch the meal and make it even more filling. Any noodles can be used — whatever is already in the cupboard.

Instant noodles like Mi Goreng are especially popular because the flavour sachets can be added straight in. Other noodles such as Maggi or home-brand noodles work just as well, with a little seasoning and soy sauce added for flavour. This dish is most often served with rice for a full and satisfying meal.

Ingredients for Falai Pisupo & Noodles

  • 1 tin corned beef (pisupo)

  • 1 onion, finely sliced

  • 1–2 packets instant noodles (any brand)

  • Oil, for cooking

Optional:

  • Garlic

  • Dark soy sauce (especially if using plain noodles)

  • Noodle seasoning sachets (if included)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Heat the oil
Heat a small amount of oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

  2. Cook the onion
Add the onion and cook until softened and lightly golden.

  3. Add the pisupo
Add the corned beef and gently break it up with a spoon. Stir and cook until heated through.

  4. Cook the noodles (two options)

    Option 1 – Pre-cooked noodles:
Cook the noodles separately according to packet instructions, then add them to the pan.

    Option 2 – One-pan method:
Add ¼–½ cup water to the pan, place the dry noodles on top, cover, and allow them to cook through the water and steam.

  5. Season and combine
Add noodle seasoning and/or a splash of dark soy sauce if using. Stir gently until noodles are cooked and well combined.

  6. Serve
Remove from heat and serve hot with rice.
