A Comforting Family Bake Made from Pantry Staples
This creamy pisupo pasta bake takes everything you love about the stovetop version and turns it into a hearty, oven-baked meal. It’s rich, cheesy, and comforting, using simple ingredients you’re likely to already have in the cupboard.
It’s the kind of dish that’s perfect for feeding a family, stretching ingredients a little further, and gathering everyone around the table. Easy to prepare, forgiving to make, and even better the next day.
Ingredients for Creamy Pisupo Pasta Bake
1 can pisupo (corned beef)
400 g pasta of choice (penne, spirals, or fettuccine)
1 small onion, finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 cup cream
1 cup chicken stock
1½ cups grated cheese
Oil or butter, for cooking
Optional:
Extra cheese for topping
Black pepper, to taste
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan-forced) and lightly grease a baking dish.
Cook the pasta in salted boiling water until just al dente. Drain and set aside.
Sauté the base by heating oil or butter in a large pan over medium heat. Cook onion until soft, then add garlic and cook until fragrant.
Cook the pisupo by crumbling it into the pan. Stir and cook for a few minutes until slightly browned.
Build the sauce by stirring in tomato paste, cream, and chicken stock. Bring to a gentle simmer.
Combine the pasta by adding the cooked pasta to the sauce and stirring until well coated.
Assemble the bake by transferring the pasta mixture to the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle evenly with grated cheese.
Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top. Rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Helpful Tips
Cook the pasta slightly under to avoid it becoming too soft in the oven.
Add extra stock if the sauce looks too thick before baking.
Let the bake rest briefly to help it set before serving.
Leftovers reheat well and taste even better the next day.
