Weekly EFKS Theme:
Righteousness in God Alone
📖 Bible Reading:
Romans 1:1–17
(EFKS Tusi Faitau Aso)
Dear Gen FX,
When Paul begins his letter to the Romans, he does not start with advice. He starts with the gospel. Because before we talk about behaviour, growth, or change, we must understand where righteousness truly comes from.
It comes from God alone.
THE READING, EXPLAINED
In Romans 1:1–17, Paul introduces himself as a servant of Christ, set apart for the gospel of God. He explains that this gospel was promised beforehand and is centred on Jesus Christ.
Paul is writing to believers in Rome — a city known for power, status, and influence. In that setting, speaking about a crucified Saviour could sound weak. Yet Paul says clearly:
“I am not ashamed of the gospel.”
Why? Because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes.
In verse 17, he explains something foundational: in the gospel, the righteousness of God is revealed — and it is received by faith.
WHAT THIS THEME IS POINTING TO
“Righteousness in God Alone” means that right standing with God is not earned. It is given.
It does not come from good behaviour.
It does not come from reputation.
It does not come from culture or background.
It comes through faith in Jesus Christ.
The power of the gospel is that God does for us what we cannot do for ourselves. He makes us right with Him.
WHERE THIS MEETS REAL LIFE
Think about trying to pay a debt you simply cannot afford. No matter how hard you work, the amount is beyond you.
That is what sin is like. We cannot fix it by trying harder. But the gospel announces that the debt has been paid.
Righteousness is not something we build up over time. It is something God credits to us through faith.
ONE THING TO HOLD ON TO
Righteousness comes from God — and it is received by faith.
CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, remind us that we cannot earn what You freely give.
Help us trust in the power of the gospel.
Teach us to live by faith each day.
