A special Gen FX reflection on today’s EFKS message.
Weekly EFKS Theme:
Living in unity
📖 Bible Reading:
John 11:47-53
(EFKS Tusi Faitau Aso)
Dear Gen FX,
Unity is often discussed as agreement or peace, but today’s reading shows us a deeper and more challenging truth. Unity does not always come from comfort. Sometimes, it comes through sacrifice.
The reading, explained
In John 11, the religious leaders react to Jesus’ growing influence. Fearing loss of control and division among the people, they decide that it is better for one man to die than for the nation to be destroyed.
While their motives are political, God’s purpose is greater. This moment points forward to the cross, where Jesus’ death would bring people together, not through power, but through love and redemption.
What this theme is pointing to
The cross reveals unity that is costly.
It is not based on self-interest.
It does not protect comfort or status.
Instead, unity in Christ is formed through humility, surrender, and a willingness to put others before ourselves.
Where this meets real life
In everyday life, unity often requires letting go — of pride, control, or the need to be right. Just as the cross brought reconciliation, unity today grows when people choose understanding and grace over division.
True unity is built when sacrifice replaces selfishness.
One thing to hold on to
Lasting unity is formed through sacrifice, not convenience.
Closing prayer
Jesus, thank You for the cross that brings us together.
Teach us to live with humility and grace.
Help us choose unity, even when it costs us something.
