The Gospel of Matthew: Christ’s Ministry Begins
📖 Bible Reading:
Matthew 3:1–17
(EFKS Tusi Faitau Aso)
Dear Gen FX,
Some moments in life bring clarity. Not because everything becomes easy, but because direction becomes clear. Today’s reading shows us such a moment at the very beginning of Jesus’ public ministry.
Before Jesus teaches, heals, or leads others, something important happens.
The Reading, Explained
In Matthew 3:1–17, John the Baptist prepares the way by calling people to repentance. When Jesus comes to be baptised, John hesitates, recognising who Jesus is. Jesus insists, choosing obedience to God’s will.
As Jesus is baptised, heaven opens. The Spirit descends like a dove, and God’s voice is heard, declaring Jesus as His beloved Son, with whom He is well pleased.
This moment confirms Jesus’ identity and marks the beginning of His ministry.
What This Theme Is Pointing To
This passage reminds us that clarity begins with identity. Before Jesus does anything publicly, God speaks about who He is.
Jesus’ ministry starts not with action, but with affirmation. Obedience comes before influence, and relationship comes before responsibility.
Where This Meets Real Life
Many people look for clarity by rushing ahead — making decisions, chasing opportunities, or trying to prove themselves. Jesus shows us a different way.
Clarity often comes when we pause, listen, and align ourselves with God’s will. Knowing who we are in God helps guide what we are called to do.
One Thing To Hold On To
God’s direction becomes clearer when we first listen to who He says we are.
Closing Prayer
God, thank You for speaking clearly and faithfully.
Help us to listen for Your voice
and walk in obedience and trust.
Amen.
