Crispy Chicken Wings Without Deep Frying
These easy air fryer chicken wings are crispy and golden on the outside while staying tender and juicy inside. A simple seasoning keeps them versatile, while the air fryer gives you that crisp finish without needing a pot of hot oil.
Serve them as an easy dinner with chips and salad, put them in the middle of the table for everyone to share, or toss them through your family's favourite sauce. Sometimes a big plate of crispy wings and plenty of napkins is all the dinner planning you need.
Ingredients for Air Fryer Chicken Wings
1 kg chicken wings
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Optional:
BBQ sauce
Buffalo sauce
Honey soy sauce
Garlic butter
Ranch dressing
Lemon wedges
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prepare the wings. Pat the chicken wings thoroughly dry with paper towel. Removing excess moisture helps the skin become crisp.
Season the chicken. Place the wings in a large bowl. Add the olive oil, baking powder, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
Coat evenly. Toss until every chicken wing is lightly and evenly coated in the seasoning.
Preheat the air fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 200°C for around 3 minutes if your model recommends preheating.
Arrange the wings. Place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Leave a little room between them so the hot air can circulate.
Air fry. Cook at 200°C for 20–24 minutes, turning the wings halfway through cooking.
Check the chicken. The wings should be deeply golden and crisp. Chicken should reach at least 75°C internally at the thickest part without touching the bone.
Serve or add sauce. Serve immediately with your favourite dipping sauce, or toss the hot wings through a sauce before serving.
Helpful Tips
Dry the wings well before seasoning — moisture is the enemy of crispy chicken skin.
Use baking powder, not bicarbonate of soda. A small amount helps the skin become crisp.
Don't overcrowd the air fryer basket. Cook in batches if necessary.
For extra-crispy wings, add another 2–3 minutes at the end while keeping an eye on them.
