Today’s Reading: Matthew 1:1–17
(EFKS Tusi Faitau Aso)
“The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
(Matthew 1:1, KJV)
This week’s EFKS theme:
Emmanuel — God With Us
A Thought for Today
At first glance, today’s reading can feel like just a long list of names. It’s easy to skim past it and wonder what it has to do with us.
But Scripture rarely includes anything by accident.
What This Means for Us Today
Matthew begins the story of Jesus by showing where He comes from. Every name in this list represents a real person, a real family, and a real story — some faithful, some broken, some forgotten.
This genealogy reminds us that God works through generations, not just moments. Jesus did not arrive disconnected from history. He came through it.
“Who’s who?” is not just about names. It’s about belonging. It shows us that God’s promises move through time, people, and families — and that no story is wasted.
Carry This With You
You are part of a story bigger than yourself.
Your life, your background, and your journey matter to God — even the parts that feel ordinary or overlooked.
A Simple Prayer
God, thank You that You work through real people and real stories.
Help us trust that our place in Your story matters.
Amen.
Today’s Invitation
Take a moment today to remember this:
God knows your name, your story, and where you come from — and He is still at work.
