Power does not give anyone the right to harm another person.
What This Means for Us Today
This difficult passage comes from an ancient society where slavery existed.
Even there, limits were placed upon an owner’s treatment of those under their authority, including consequences for physical harm.
For us, the principle is clear: another person’s vulnerability should never become an opportunity for abuse.
Carry This With You
Protect the vulnerable rather than taking advantage of them.
A Simple Prayer
Lord, make me someone who protects rather than harms.
Give me courage to stand against mistreatment.
